History: Bikaner, named after Rao Bikaji, one of the five sons of Rao Jodhaji (the founder of Jodhpur), depicts the true colors of Rajasthan. Rao Bikaji founded Bikaner in 1488, when he went out in search of a suitable place to set up his own kingdom, after he hearing some remarks from his father. Junagarh Fort: This fort was built during the period (1588-1593) by Raja Rai Singh, a general in the army of Mughal Emperor, Akbar. The entry in to the fort is through the yellow sandstone Suraj Pole (Sun Gate) facing to the east. There are many Mahals within Junagarh Fort like- Anup Mahal, Phool Mahal, Hawa Mahal and Diwan-e-Khas.
Karni Mata Temple: This 17th century temple was beautified by Ganga Singh (1898-1943). Ganga Singh added the silver gates and beautiful marble carvings on the facade of the temple. He dedicated the temple to a 15th century female mystic Karniji, who's worshipped as an incarnation of Durga.
Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum: This museum houses a wide and rich collection of sculptures, terracotta ware, paintings and musical instruments.
Lalgarh Palace: This red sandstone palace was designed by Sir Swinton Jacob in 1902 for Maharaja Ganga Singh. It's a rich blend of oriental and European styles.
