Location: In the southern part of the State of Karnataka, India.
History: According to a legend, the city is named after an old woman, who lived in this area and offered a humble meal of boiled beans to a lost Hoysala ruler. Bangalore, the 'City of Gardens' came in to existence in the 16th century and gained prominence in the 18th century, when it became the reigning place for Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore. The British defeated later Tipu Sultan and seized Bangalore. In 1831, the British established a big cantonment here. Its also known as India's Silicon Valley and has been a software centre for decades.
