History:Agra was the Capital of the Great Mughal Emperor, Sikander Lodi in the year 1501. Taj Mahal: The beautiful monument of love, which is amongst the Seven Wonders of the World, is no doubt the special attraction of Agra. The Mughal Emperor built it in the fond memory of her loving wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It took 22 years for Taj Mahal to be completed and around 20,000 workers were engaged in building it. Agra Fort: This beautiful Fort made of Red Sandstone was built by Akbar during 1565 and 1574. The mighty wall runs for about 2 ½ kms around the perimeter of the Fort. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here by his son Aurangzeb and spent his last years in this Fort. Agra Fort is situated at less than 2 kms distance from Taj Mahal. Jahangiri Mahal: This Fort was built by Akbar as women's quarters. Jahangiri Fort portrays a beautiful blend of Hindu and Central Asian Architectural styles. In front of this Fort is a huge bowl and it's said that Jahangir's wife Nur Jahan, used to make attar (perfumed oil) in this bowl.

Akbar's Mausoleum: Akbar's Tomb is situated at a short distance from Agra, in Sikandra. The construction of this beautiful sandstone and marble tomb was started by Akbar himself but he died during its construction and his son Jahangir completed it in 1613. One of the special attractions of this Mausoleum is that its Gateway is built in the style of Buland Darwaza, at Fatehpuri Sikri, which you can see on tours to Agra.

How to Reach:
Air: Agra Airport is located just 7kms away from the centre of the city. There are daily flights from Delhi to Agra and that too as short as for 40 minutes. Apart from Delhi there are flights to Agra from places like Varanasi and Khajuraho.
